Encounter building is the most tedious half-hour of prep in fifth edition. XP budgets per character, challenge ratings converted to XP, and — in the 2014 rules — a multiplier that depends on how many monsters there are, because six goblins are worse than their arithmetic suggests. It is all lookup tables, and it is all done by hand on a Sunday night.
Type the monsters you had in mind and their challenge ratings. It rates the fight against your party (type the levels in, or with a subscription it reads the party from your Party Manager) and shows its working — thresholds, raw XP, the multiplier — so you can disagree with it on the evidence rather than just distrust it.
- Rated against your party, not a generic one: type the levels, or with a subscription use the saved party
- 2014 and 2024 rules, switchable — they are different systems
- Any monster, including homebrew: it needs a CR, not a bestiary
- One button sends the whole fight to the Combat Tracker
