Ask about your table, not a generic one
Without a connection, Claude plans for an imaginary party. With it, every answer starts from your characters' actual levels, HP, saves, spells and items.

Claude
Vraxxis is level 9 now: 122 HP, AC 19, and an attuned Cloak of Protection. The bell thread on your prep sheet is still open. Four ogres against your four level-9 characters rates Easy on the Encounter Builder's numbers — add a hill giant and it's Hard.
Connect it in two minutes
- Start a DnD Gadgets trial and set up your party in the Party Manager. Drop screenshots of each character's sheet from your VTT or character builder onto their Character Sheet page, and check what was read.
- On your account page, copy the connector address.
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and paste it.
- Choose Allow when DnD Gadgets asks. That's it — ask Claude about your party.
Safe by design
- Read-only. Claude can look; it can't change, add or delete anything.
- Your data only. Claude sees the account that allowed it, nothing else.
- A sign-in, not a key. You approve the connection on DnD Gadgets; there's no API key to copy or leak.
- Off when you say. Disconnect from your account page and access ends at once.
- Small answers. Summaries first, full sheet sections only on request, so long chats stay fast.
Questions
What is an MCP server?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard Claude uses to reach outside tools and data. An MCP server is the other end of that connection. DnD Gadgets runs one, so Claude can look up your party instead of you pasting it into the chat.
Can Claude change my parties or sheets?
No. Every tool the server offers is read-only. Claude can look at your parties, sheets, prep and saved items, and rate an encounter; it can't edit, add or delete anything.
Does it cost extra?
No. It's included in the DnD Gadgets subscription ($3.99/month after a 7-day trial). You need a Claude account that supports custom connectors.
Does it work with ChatGPT or other MCP clients?
It's built and tested for Claude. Other assistants aren't supported right now.
Where does the character data come from?
From you. Drop screenshots of each character's sheet from your VTT or character builder onto their Character Sheet page, check what was read, and save. Level up later and add new screenshots; the changes are kept as a dated history Claude can read too.
How do I disconnect it?
From your DnD Gadgets account page, at any time. Claude loses access straight away.
